Green Electricity Certificate（GEC）
Green Electricity Certificate (GEC) is an electronic credential with a unique code identifier issued by the state for green electricity generated from registered renewable energy generation projects. The GEC is the sole proof of the environmental attributes of renewable energy electricity in China, and the only credential for recognizing the production and consumption of renewable energy electricity. Each GEC represents 1,000 kWh (1 MWh) of renewable energy electricity. All electricity generated from renewable energy projects, including wind power, solar photovoltaic, hydropower, biomass power, geothermal power, and ocean power, can be issued with GECs accordingly.

GEC
The GEC represents the environmental attribute value of renewable energy electricity and is the sole certificate for green electricity consumption. In March 2025, China's GEC received full recognition from RE100. Going forward, together with the EU Guarantee of Origin (GO) and I-REC, it will seek recognition under key green trade frameworks such as the EU CBAM and the New Battery Regulation.
I-REC
I‑REC is accepted by RE100, CDP, and GHGP as a trusted tracking tool to prevent double counting and double claims. It is widely purchased by major global companies.
In August 2024, the I‑TRACK Foundation announced that I‑REC issuance in China would end in March 2025. Applications for 2024 generation were accepted until March 31, 2025. From April 2025, no new I‑RECs are issued in China, making GEC the sole proof of renewable energy consumption. In May 2025, RE100 confirmed GEC meets its standards, giving GEC the same credibility as I‑REC.
TIGR
TIGR, created by U.S.-based APX, provides standardized renewable energy certificates for emerging markets without national systems. Each TIGR represents 1 MWh of renewable generation, with third-party verification, full lifecycle traceability, and double-counting prevention.
